There are some pretty badass stories that have led me to where I am now. There’s been a lot of love, a lot of loss, and a lot of living outside of my comfort zone.
Life after 40 is both surprising and surprisingly messy. I’m a 42-year-old first time bride. I should know.
My future husband was actually an audience member in a Toastmasters speech contest. My speech was called Just Outside the Comfort Zone. While I won that night, the next contest was the biggest loss in my public speaking career. But that’s life, isn’t it? A chance to share our hearts and souls, and risk them getting trampled on for the bliss of letting ourselves be seen, heard, and loved.
As a writer from an Irish Catholic family who dreams of a career in stand-up comedy, you might expect that I’m a sucker for self-deprecation.
Yes, you’ll learn about my screw ups and shortcomings in this blog. And I give you full permission to laugh with or at me. But there’s also some hard-won wisdom, some laughs, and some lessons learned about the power of storytelling.
Through it all, I’ve learned that words matter.
My job isn’t just to share my story, but to also inspire you to share yours. Yes, it’s uncomfortable. But whether we’re kicking ass or falling on it, I’ve learned that identifying our stories and how we want to tell them is so worth it. As a writer, it’s my “why.” What’s yours?
If you need help putting your “why” on paper, I’m here to help.
